May 26, 2014 – On Monday, May 19th of 2014, the United Wrestling League’s Kevin Hill and Kennedy Sports Agent Bryan Kennedy were both spotted walking out of a recently finished “Throwback Arena” in St. Louis, Missouri with a licensed building inspector and fire martial. Rumors around the wrestling world swirled about the two of them going into business with each other to open a start up company, one that would bring wrestling back to St. Louis. Today, a press conference was held outside of the KSA Incorporated building where Bryan Kennedy, and the confirmed Play-By-Play Announcer to be William Stems made the confirmation everybody wanted to here.
“Professional Wrestling in St. Louis has always been a big thing. In the mid-60s to the early 1980s, St. Louis was considered the hotbed for this industry where all of the top wrestlers dreamed of performing. Fast forward to 2014, and St. Louis has seemingly become an afterthought. So when Kevin and I were talking weeks ago, we agreed that the tradition of Missouri Wrestling had to be revived, but we also had to make it an Experience that both the wrestlers and the fans would never forget,” said Bryan Kennedy.
And he wasn’t lying. The new promotion, named Missouri Wrestling Experience, is set to give wrestlers a fair chance inside the ring in every aspect. Contenders are on a rotating cycle eliminating overused storylines, and even a normal match within the MWE promises to eliminate some of the risky dangers within the ring as they combatants compete for the advertised Heritage Division.
“We wanted to give wrestlers a chance to showcase their natural in-ring talents. High fliers, technicians, brawlers, powerhouses, and even the most charismatic showman are allowed to come into the Heritage Division and not have as many worries as before,” stated William Stems when asked about the division. “The division itself is headlined by a spin on a classic rules set in place by the Legendary Bill Watts. Combatants follow pretty much the basic style we see in the wrestling world today, with the biggest differences coming in the disqualification section. In MWE, we believe throwing an opponent over the top rope isn’t only tasteless, but it’s also a greater risk of severe injury. And to help eliminate this, MWE has added a rule stating that purposely throwing an opponent of the top rope is an automatic disqualification.”
But what about those pesky rule breakers that love to take advantage of the rules while wearing gold? Well MWE founder Bryan Kennedy has stated that champions in the Heritage Division are subject be stripped of their championship in the event of a disqualification. But he, nor MWE, wants it to be twisted. High Fliers who commonly use high risk springboards in their offense, and sometimes defense, are definitely welcome in MWE and encouraged to continue using their style. “I’ve spent several years in the country of Mexico, for various reasons. And while I was there, I witnessed some of the most amazing wrestling in the world. They managed to keep it clean without throwing people over the top rope, and they also utilized their high octane style with perfection. That’s what I call class, and I welcome that kind of wrestling in the MWE.”
And while all of these things are great strategic plans for MWE, we at UWL News wondered what this had to do with the UWL. But we didn’t worry for long because our questions were soon answered. “Championships in pro-wrestling are the be all in this business. With the help of UWL, MWE will be the home of the UWL Missouri Heavyweight, UWL Missouri Heritage, UWL Missouri Tag Team, and UWL Missour Ladies Championship titles,” Bryan confirmed to us as he continued. “UWL and MWE are proud to work with each, and showcase the greatness of Missouri wrestling. So it was no brainer that we wanted to put both of our stamps on the championships. These championships, while owned by the UWL franchise, will be used at MWE sponsored events only; including the UWL pay per views.”
Of course, championships aren’t the only bonus coming to the UWL. William Stems states, “To continue our idea of reviving old school wrestling, MWE and UWL have set up an exclusive Pro-Wrestling Syndicated show called Saturday Night Throwback. This show will air every Saturday Night at 11pm Central time on Pro-Wrestling Syndicated. In addition, MWE will host four internet Pay Per Views on the show, while 8 direct to DVD special Supershows will fill in the rest of the monthly slots.”
Officially opening its doors for stars world wide to register and join up on Memorial Day, May 26, 2014 at 3pm Central; MWE and UWL are looking to make an emphatic statement on their road to reviving the traditional style of Pro-Wrestling and Missouri’s legacy within the industry. UWL founder, Kevin Hill, was not present at the time for questions but has promised a statement later this week.
